Experience Mental Health Service Intervention by Social Workers of Home Support Service Center for the Elderly -Focusing on Depression and Suicide prevention

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the experiences of community based mental health service intervention by social workers of home support service center for elderly. For this purpose, a phenomenological qualitative research methodology was used in order to analyse the experience of 14 social workers with in-depth interviews. They were staffs of institutions that participated depression and suicide prevention projects organized by the Busan Association in Community Care for the Eldery. The study found that were 16 subtopics and 4 essential subject groups. The seven essential topics are ¡®the alienation of mental health services', ¡®a brave challenge¡¯ , ¡®social welfare practitioner as a change tool¡¯ , ¡®value of sharing practice' , ¡®our needs¡¯. Namely, Social workers were found to have been able to achieve new perceptions of direct intervention, growth with their clients, and a deeper understanding of their clients. Based on these findings, practical suggestions is made for mental health interventions in welfare services for the elderly.
